The bachelor's degree in social work (BA/BASW) requires completion of a minimum of 120 credits, 46 of which should be under the social work major. This program does not grant social work course credit for life experience or previous work experience. Learners wishing to major in social work must request an intercollege transfer to the College of Health and Human Sciences, School of Social Work and Family Sciences from their current college. A 2.75 grade point average and 30 credit hours is required for admission to the School. Once admitted to the School, a separate admissions packet must be completed with the School in order to be admitted as a social work major in good standing. The social work major is built on a liberal arts base within the general education program. Learners must complete the liberal arts requirements and General Education mathematics and English requirements prior to full admission in the social work major. The School encourages learners to complete all General Education Bachelor degree requirements as early as possible and concentrate on the social work major in the final semesters. Post-baccalaureate learners must also meet all preadmission criteria.

The mission of the Online Bachelor of Social Work Program (Online BSW) is to prepare students for beginning professional generalist social work practice in a wide range of settings and with diverse populations through education, research, and service with special appreciation for the peoples and institutions of West Virginia, Appalachia, and other rural areas. The program prepares graduates for beginning level professional generalist social work practice, and graduate social work education. A basic arts and sciences education is essential. The program provides opportunities for field experience in many of the required social work courses. Graduates of the online social work program are trained as generalist practitioners through a wide range of courses, enabling them to work effectively with a variety of issues and people.

The BSW at Indiana Wesleyan University is a fully online bachelor completion program that prepares you for state licensure. You can also choose to continue your education at IWU after completion in the Master of Social Work program. The program prepares students for social work practice through the teaching of the knowledge, values, and skills that equip them to be change agents advocating for the dignity and worth of all people and respect for human diversity. The Social Work program develops world changers by instructing students to utilize scientific inquiry, to integrate worldview, faith, and learning into active service that promotes social justice and growth for individuals, families, groups, communities and organizations. The virtual classroom is tailored to meet the unique needs/experiences of working adults. It brings IWU’s Christian mission and vision, as well as an accredited Social Work program, to everyone.
